Can’t help but wonder how the whole tactical and coaching setup at West Ham doesn’t get more scrutiny in the English media. Yeah I get it - they’re all top-six obsessed and the expectation is that we’re always gonna be a bit naff, but then there are clubs like Newcastle, Brighton, Fulham and Brentford that can play the modern game to win as well. Guess it’s just some kind of collective nostalgia for relying on tall donkeys and hoofing it up the pitch.

Emerson looked and played better with Aggy on that side,

One swallow does not make a summer, but I could see a potentially big offer coming in from someone for Aguerd in the near future if he carries on like he did yesterday.

Someone I know who works as a data analyst for the club said Nolan mostly handles set piece preparation both attacking and defending. The tablet is used to remind them of their positioning and role ( mark x ) on set pieces just before they enter the game apparently? Nevin is the tactician. Explains a lot in terms of formations, tactics, selections.

Get a top right sided quick CB - play big Zou in the middle and Aggy on the left.

Spend big bucks on Ndicka or Tomori.

A few frightening Zouma mistakes aside I thought the three CBs all played pretty well. They were still required more often than a defence protected by a '100 million pound bwilliant player' and against the world's shitiest attack ought to be though.

Nice to see Ings getting to see 19 minutes worth of Nolans kitchen refurb on the IPAD before he got to come on.

Thought Aguerd and Oggy were supurb.

No it fucking wasn't, it SHOULD have been, but it wasn't

Lown block boring football with no intention of having the football for any longer than necessary. Rubbish. Coaching is atrocious.

Really impressed with Aguerd yesterday. Reckon he’ll be our captain next season. Classy player, good organiser and a character too. I think his influence over the second half of this season will see us get many more points than some fear.

If we lose the next 3 it will be 4 points from 33.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread - Preview
I see a max of 2 points from the next 3 games, so when Forest comes around it's going to be another must win.

As said, they could have and should have scored early second half which would have changed the complexion of the game.

Nowhere near out the woods yet, but if you wanted to be optimistic then you could look at Ings coming in, Aguerd beginning to look good, Paquetta improving, Ogbonna may have some legs left, Antonio was decent, Bowen scoring etc, etc, then 'maybe' we might begin to improve ourselves from now on in??

I thought we had more ball than the stats are saying, especially during the first half when they put a stat up on my channel. The reported 32% just seems too low to me, but I guess you shouldn't try and argue against the stats, or even make a casual comment about them, especially on here.
I didn't like it, but didn't surprise me that we came out to defend at the start of the 2nd half. Recently, and too often, we have come out to start the 2nd half all fired up to attack and lost a goal when the other team breaks after one of our attacks.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Second half was interesting.

They pushed up with the wing backs and we backed off. This created pressure that Moyes reacted to by taking off Paqueta (fair enough, he was on a yellow and the ref. seemed keen to show him another). But instead of the normal, footballing replacement of either the attacking Fornals, or the more defence-minded Downes, he puts on Soucek, and then later Downes for Benrahma. All this strange negativity left the midfield effectively paralysed - the players clearly hated the changes and Everton, seriously the shittest side I've yet seen this season, went on to dominate the rest of the half.

OK, so we won. But let's be clear on one thing: it was because they couldn't score and we improved with Aguerd and Oggy (Emerson also to an extent). Moyes is a reactive fool with a condition rather than an awareness of what is going on around him and on the pitch. He is absent and disconnected exactly when he needs to exactly the opposite. Dreadful, absolutely dreadful.

Glad of the win obviously.
The toffees were pony and we started like snails again. (Could sense the lot in our bit were ‘waiting’ for us to go one down in a way, to start the proper abuse at the boring flintstone moyes).
Agree with most about the team changes needed. It’s been more than obvious to the majority, except the skirt wearing dour sweaty.
(That sounds like the start of an old coca-cola advert!)

Oh and Sir Alf (and Crassus while we’re at it) are both well respected posters on here who know the score on all things football. (We all need a moan up now and again. It’s only natural!).

100% correct. In the second half especially, we turned the ball over to Everton cheaply time and time again. At times our game management was non-existent. We were 2-0 up, great if we got a third but just try and keep hold of the fucking ball for more than 3 passes!

fraser 10:58 Sun Jan 22
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Everton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Everton completely dominated the ball.

We started brightly.. It was then all Everton for 20 minutes, the 15 minutes before half time when we scored twice we looked quite good.

I was expecting us to come out second half looking like a team that was two up against a team that can't score, but of course not. We allowed them the ball and dropped deep.

How naive am I?

Watching the match back they could have scored twice in the opening minutes of the second half, a better team would have.
